I’ve just published my 100th podcast episode and I can’t quite believe it

I’ve just published my 100th podcast episode and I can’t quite believe it.

Podcasting as I’m sure you’ll know is constantly evolving and growing in popularity. From the powerhouse of NPR to the British Podcast Awards you can’t ignore it anymore and why would you want to.

There are numerous reasons podcast content is ace from the engaging stories you get to hear from someone the other side of the world to the ease of always finding something to listen to on your phone and I want to just share about my own podcast journey as it’s been a wonderful one so far.

I launched my podcast in September 2014. Previously I’d been making random content and sharing it on my blog but this was a proper one, I submitted my feed to iTunes, set up a website and social media profiles, followed various podcast training guru’s advice by joining in their gang and hey presto I was off. Everyone talked about finding your niche and I’d found mine.

My podcast is called The Fertility Podcast and it’s for anyone who isn’t having an easy time starting or completing their family – which is what happened to us. So after successful fertility treatment I started approaching people to speak to and over time they have started contacting me. I’m now in a place where I have sponsors, I’m about to launch a new website to mark my 100th episode and I’ve just started working with a podcast marketing agency to help me up my game. I’m taking it seriously after realising I’ve spent 3 years of my life on it.

It’s been a lot of work and it’s been something I’ve had to stick to and get systems in place and I’m not a fan of systems even though I know I have to be, to really be a player these days.. also with a toddler I’d never get anything done otherwise.

The podcasting world is a fascinating one and there is constantly more discussion about how well audio content works for specific audiences, especially small ones. Sadly 1 in 6 couples around the globe struggle to conceive so I don’t think I’m speaking to a small audience, it’s just such a sensitive subject that generally we’re still not talking about a lot of the issues enough. But I am and I will continue to. On releasing my 100th episode I said exactly that, whilst there is still more to be raise awareness about and more people willing to share their stories with me, I will continue to make content.

I will also continue to target potential sponsors and monetise my content to enable me to value my worth. If you’d like to talk more about podcast creation and the potential in monetising content, let me know. Also check out this interesting article on podcast audiences piece by Simon Owens
